I am Dr. Lynna Ausburn, or "Dr. A" as I am generally known. I will be your instructor for this course in visual design. I hold a Ph.D. in Educational Media and Technology from University of Oklahoma and am currently Associate Professor and Program Coordinator for the Occupational Education Studies program in the College of Education at OSU. My husband, Dr. Floyd Ausburn ("Dr. Floyd"), and I teach courses in technology, instructional design, theory, and research in the OCED program. We sponsor the OCED Virtual Reality Research Team and are actively engaged with many of our graduate students in technology research and development.

In this visual design class, we will explore numerous concepts and principles related to visual literacy/visual communication and the effective design of visual materials in print and digital media. We will also examine the theories behind these concepts and principles.
You should purchase the following textbook for this class: Lohr, Linda. L. (2008). Creating Graphics for Learning and Performance: Lessons in Visual Literacy (2nd Edition). Upper Saddle River, NJ: Pearson Merrill Prentice Hall. ISBN: 978-0-13-219158-6
PLEASE NOTE: This class will have a considerable amount of independent study. We will have short class meetings on most Wednesday evenings, but much of your work will be self-directed projects based on general assignment guidelines. You will have considerable freedom to choose your own projects, and I would like you to choose projects that are actually useful to you. If you have questions at any time, or are unsure what you should be doing, please don't hesitate to contact me for assistance.
